Green Heron Pond

Picture
This 12-acre property is located in the Miller section of the City of Gary.  The diverse site features a range of habitats from interdunal wetland to high dune.  Black oak savanna and woodland grade into mesic oak forest, providing habitat for numerous woodland and savanna wildflowers.  The dominant wetland feature is a permanent pond which supports fish, frogs, turtles, muskrats, and waterfowl.  Smaller seasonal ponds also occur at the site.
