Shirley Heinze Land Trust has a lot to celebrate this year, and none of it would have been possible without your support.
The Northwest Indiana Mighty Acorns Partnership took a big step forward this year, doubling our reach to serve 140 classrooms and over 3,700 students in Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties. We were very fortunate to be able to complete field trips for all but two classes, who could not come due to weather. The expansion has gone very smoothly, with help from Purdue University Calumet, Portage Parks and Recreation, and the Hammond Port Authority, who provide us with outdoor classrooms at their facilities. The students learned about ecology, practiced stewardship, and saw deer, salamanders, frogs, praying mantes, and all sorts of other insects, animal homes, galls, and egg sacs. ArcelorMittal provided major funding for the partnership, which allowed for this unprecedented expansion across the region.
During this season of celebration and giving, please consider an additional year end appeal gift to Shirley Heinze Land Trust. Your investment will help us to continue our success as we increase our capacity to protect land in Northwest Indiana. Individual contributions account for nearly 50% of our annual budget.
We also have an equipment wish list. These items will assist us in fulfilling our mission. If you have any of these items or can assist in financing their purchase, we’d be very grateful. All items are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
