Community Hike

Shirley Heinze Land Trust is hosting its annual Community Hike at Little Calumet Wetlands on August 27, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

The event will include the official opening of the new bridge. Guided tours will depart every 15-30 minutes (or when sizable groups forms).

The trail runs parallel to, and in close proximity of the Little Calumet River, because of these factors, this hike is subject to cancellation due to weather and river conditions. In the event that it becomes necessary to cancel, an email notice will be sent out 24 hours in advance.

Directions: (From I-94) take Hwy 49 South toward Chesterton. At the first stop light, turn left (east) onto Indian Boundary Rd. Travel approximately 2 miles until it comes to a “T” intersection. At this intersection, turn right (south) onto Brummitt Rd. Then turn immediately right again into the Brummitt School parking lot, and park in the southeast corner of the lot. The preserve access point is located across Brummitt Rd. and slightly south of the school parking lot.
